Linger
Description:
Linger software package is for performing reading, listening, and other sentence processing experiments. It was primarily designed for masked, self-paced reading experiments, but however, the code is flexible and can be adapted to support many other types of experiments. Linger is written in Tcl/!Tk and it can run on Unix, Windows, or Macintosh systems. Linger is also able to handle non-English text and has been used to conduct experiments in much more languages. The Linger package is actually composed of four main programs:
- Linger runs the experiments,
- Lingalyzer analyzes the data,
- Lingrapher can be used to quickly generate graphs of averaged reading-time data.
- The Subjector program is a general purpose application for maintaining a database of subjects and the experiments they have performed.
Linger includes the following experiment types:
- Masked Self-Paced Reading and/or Listening
- Centered Self-Paced !Reading/!Listening
- Masked Auto-Paced (fixed rate) !Reading/!Listening
- Centered Auto-Paced !Reading/!Listening
- Block Reading
- Speak and Listen (two subjects, one reading, one listening)
- Listen (to a reader) and Answer
- Auditory Prime Lexical Decision (listen, then do a LD)
Linger can be used to generate HTML questionnaires.
