Short description:

This database will contain comprehensive information for a handmade crafts marketplace platform connecting multiple independent sellers with customers. It manages store profiles, product catalogs with production details, hierarchical personnel permission systems per store, customer profiles with cross-store order history, and multi-level business analytics. If we continue developing this project, we would create a full marketplace platform that enables seamless online shopping across multiple handmade craft stores, efficient inventory and store management for sellers, and detailed business intelligence for both individual store owners and marketplace administrators. The system will handle multi-store product catalogs, customer relationships across stores, store-specific employee permissions, and layered sales analytics to provide a complete solution for a handmade crafts marketplace.

Detailed description of the project:

Our project aims to create a comprehensive database system for a handmade crafts marketplace platform. The system will handle multiple independent stores, each with their own product management (automatic coding, inventory tracking, production timelines), customer communication, and order processing. It will implement sophisticated store-specific personnel management systems with hierarchical permission levels (store owners, managers, employees) and track all personnel activities within their respective stores. Customer management will include unified profiles with order history across multiple stores, delivery addresses, and communication logs. The analytics module will provide business intelligence at three levels: store-specific performance, cross-store marketplace trends, and platform-wide metrics.

  • The database and application are intended for a handmade crafts marketplace platform that hosts multiple independent stores. The system owner (marketplace administrator) will maintain the platform infrastructure, while individual store owners will manage their own stores within the marketplace. Customers will browse and purchase products from multiple stores, store personnel will manage their specific store's operations, store owners will monitor their store's performance, and marketplace administrators will oversee the entire platform's health, security, and growth.
  • Our project will address several key problems in the handmade crafts e-commerce space: fragmented customer experience across multiple independent stores, inefficient inventory and order management for small craft businesses, lack of standardized permission systems for store personnel, and insufficient business analytics for both individual stores and the marketplace as a whole. Specifically, it will solve multi-store inventory management by providing real-time stock tracking per store, streamline customer service through organized communication systems, enforce security through hierarchical store-specific permissions, and enable data-driven decision making through comprehensive analytics at store and marketplace levels.
  • The system will have multiple user types: Customers (who can browse products from all stores, place orders, and leave reviews), Store Personnel (with permissions specific to their store for product management, customer communication, and order processing), Store Owners (with full access to their store's operations, analytics, and personnel management), and Marketplace Administrators (with platform-wide oversight, cross-store analytics, and system configuration). Each user type will have different access levels and permissions appropriate to their role and store affiliation.
  • While there are existing e-commerce solutions such as Shopify or WooCommerce, our proposal differs in its specialized focus on a curated handmade crafts marketplace with features like multi-store product discovery, store-specific production time tracking, hierarchical permission systems tailored for craft businesses, and layered analytics for both individual stores and the marketplace platform. Our approach offers integrated business intelligence specifically designed for multi-vendor craft marketplaces, which provides advantages in customer experience, seller operational efficiency, and platform management for this specific market segment.
  • This will be a web application with responsive design for both desktop and mobile access. The frontend will be built using modern JavaScript frameworks (React/Vue.js) while the backend will utilize PostgreSQL for data storage and Node.js/Python for server-side processing. The application will include separate interfaces for customers (unified shopping experience across stores), store personnel (store-specific management dashboard), store owners (store analytics and management), and marketplace administrators (platform-wide analytics and system configuration).
